The company Groz in Salem near Lake Constance is world-renowned for the outstanding quality of its blood pressure measuring devices. But the medical ergometer to go with them was new ground. Designbox had the privilege to work as a partner for the entire development life cycle of this exciting product from the first hand-drawn sketch right up to series production.

Initial ergonomic tests with competitors' devices show that there is large scope for improvement with regards to getting on them. Especially elderly patients need to be able to mount the ergometer with ease. To facilitate this, the ergometer is given an unusual shape with its centre of gravity directly underneath the patient's seating position. And the solid cast aluminium base plate ensures a secure footing.

One important requirement was the universal placement of the measuring unit - facing either the patient or the practitioner. We designed an appropriate adapter to make the modification as simple as possible.

Over several months the initial idea is turned into a real product. As the first sketches are well received by the customer, the design can be transferred to our CAD system very rapidly.

From here we work with real volumes and surfaces. The steps in the design process are shown via photo-realistic renderings and animations, which provide a faithful representation of the future product.

In construction, all parameters are set for the later production. Models are built of all components in order to test them.

The final step is the definition of all surfaces, colours and product graphics.
